Cookie notice

1. What this notice covers

This notice explains what Scout Atlas Limited ("the Company") stores in a visitor's browser when they use scoutatlas.uk and its documentation subdomain docs.scoutatlas.uk, whether as cookies or as similar browser storage, and how a visitor can control it. The two sites store different things, and clause 2 says which is which. It should be read with the Privacy notice.

2. What this website stores today

scoutatlas.uk currently uses only strictly necessary storage, and no analytics or tracking cookies are in use. The Company sets no cookies of its own. It keeps two items in the browser's own storage, neither of which leaves the visitor's device or identifies the visitor: the chosen theme (light or dark), kept until the visitor clears their browser data, and a flag for the current browsing session recording that the entry sequence has already played, deleted when the browser tab or window closes. Each is needed only to provide what the visitor has chosen, so neither requires consent, and this website shows no cookie banner.

The documentation subdomain, docs.scoutatlas.uk, stores only the first of those two items, the chosen theme, and stores it as a browser localStorage entry rather than as a cookie. It has no entry sequence, so it keeps no session flag. It sets no cookies of its own, runs no analytics, and stores nothing that requires consent, so it shows no cookie banner and keeps no record of a visitor having accepted one.

3. Cookies set by service providers

At the date of this notice the website is not served through any provider that sets cookies. If a provider used for hosting or security ever sets a strictly necessary cookie, it will be used only for security, will not identify a visitor, and will be listed here.

4. If that changes

If the Company ever introduces analytics or any cookie or storage that is not strictly necessary, it will update this notice first and add a proper consent banner at that time, so that nothing non-essential is stored before a visitor has agreed to it.

5. Managing browser storage

A visitor can clear or block cookies and site data through their browser's settings. Clearing either site's data removes the stored theme choice; blocking site data does not stop either site working, and the theme resets on each visit, as does the entry sequence on scoutatlas.uk.

6. Changes to this notice

The Company may update this notice from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated.
